Thank you for your support

East End Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will support the transition to net zero and decarbonising the grid to help our fight against climate change. BESS play an important role in managing imbalances in supply and demand of renewable energy through the national grid, ensuring a stable and resilient electricity network and help to avoid blackouts. BESS increase energy security and will result in lower energy costs for all.

The project would provide capacity to store 400MW of energy, representing a significant upgrade to the local grid network. This would contribute a meaningful impact to energy security within Hertfordshire.

East End BESS would also make a positive contribution towards East Hertfordshire District’s target of achieving net-zero by 2030.

Further benefits:

  • The project retains all trees and hedgerows. The proposed landscape and ecological enhancements deliver a significant biodiversity net gain (80% net gain of biodiversity habitats, alongside a 47% net gain in hedgerows).

  • We believe that it’s right that the community closest to the site is able to benefit from it. A community benefit fund will be set up to help fund local projects.

  • Should our application be successful, East Hertfordshire District Council will earn significant revenue from business rates generated throughout the project lifecycle. This will directly help fund local services.
